A doctor who kept reading the charts
Five years at Fazaia Medical College gave me anatomy, diagnostics, procedures and patient care. What stayed with me was not only the medicine. It was how much of a hospital's day is spent moving information — a handover repeated three times, a file that exists on paper in one ward and nowhere else, a result that arrives after the decision has already been made.
Pakistan's health system does not lack clinical skill. It lacks the digital spine that lets that skill scale. I want to build that spine, and I would rather do it as a doctor who has stood in the ward than as a technologist guessing at what happens there.
Healthcare informatics sits exactly on that line — clinical decision support, health data governance, records architecture, and the management practice to actually get them deployed.
I am not leaving medicine. I am taking it into the systems layer.

Specifying and rolling out EMR in facilities that currently run on paper and memory — without stopping the ward while it happens.
Clinical decision support
Turning protocols into prompts that arrive at the moment of the decision, not in an audit six months later.
Health data governance
Consent, retention, access control and clinical data protection written down before a system goes live, not bolted on after.
Workflow and throughput
Measuring where a patient's time actually goes — triage, imaging, discharge — and taking the waiting out of it.

What I intend to build
The training is a route, not a destination. The problem I want to solve is in Pakistan, and the skill is only worth something where the gap actually is.
A working deployment
My brother, Dr Umair Sadiq, runs a private hospital in Pakpattan. It is the first place I intend to put this to work — records, scheduling and telemedicine for a catchment that currently travels for a consultation.
Hospital networks

Teaching the crossover
Very few people here hold both a clinical degree and formal informatics training. I would like to be one of the people who trains the next set.
